Greetings Finland - Datsun Laurel Club Hungary
« : Joulukuu 11, 2007, 13:57:06 »
Hello Finland and dear Datsun-Nissan owners!

It's very nice to be here in your forum, thanks to "mortica"  ;)
I would like to put here a small advertisment about our small circle of friends of the Datsun Laurel car in Hungary.

http://www.nissanlaurelclub.uw.hu

The page is not complete yet also in my language and english language either,  but when I have time I'm keep working on it.
In hungary we have C230, C31 and C32 nissan laurels but unfortunatelly not too much, all of them were gray imports after the socialism was ended.
Unfortunatelly not too much old nissan and datsun survived the time and their owners here :-( As most people they're just used them and if repair were neccessary they tried to replace parts from socialist cars.

(sorry if the pictures are appears too big and doesn't fit, those are directly fitted from our blogpage http://kovacspeti.freeblog.hu and http://laurelhlc230.freeblog.hu, sorry only in hungarian)

Next year I hope I'll be ready with my restoration project C230 laurel, and we can enjoy at least one of your club meetings in Finland.

Wish you all the best!

Hi Datsun100A!

Thank you very much!
Fortunatelly I was able to exclude foreign parts from the car :)
I would like to have an oldtimer graduation on it to get an OT licence plate, so it must be original as it can be to accepted by the commettee.
But did you know, that the Lada 2101-2107 half axle bearing fits into the differential housing, only you have to make some mods on the half axle for the inner diameter?
(I've installed japan bearing ofcourse)

So you had that half axle bearing of lada in it  ;) Hungarian people are handy. Why they used parts from the socialist cars? Original parts were too hard to find/too expensive?

Now days those laurels are wery infrequent. Take good care of it. I`d like to see it when restoration is ready :)

Hmmm... As you telling me, I started to have a feeling that I'm restoring a Lada  :)
Last time somebody saw my background picture (guess what?) and asked what is it,is it a WV Golf?
That was insulting... :)

You know in the socialism (I didn't live too much in it) there wasn't too much kind of car avaiable here. Lada, Dacia, Wartburg and Trabant. The Nissan mark wasn't known in Hungary. If somebody was so lucky to cross the borders and take a different car with him back to Hungary, well later he met the problem of spare parts. Parts were almost impossible to get, that's why the early gray import cars finished in junk yards. Mostly C31 and C32 Laurels  are here from gray imports, but not too much, unfortunatelly in very bad condition. In Germany I can see very nice cars, but they asking the price. Anyhow I'm in love with my 200L :)
A few weeks ago I saw a Datsun Cherry here, too bad it's front fender was damaged.
Getting parts for my car is heavy but not impossible, but I guess who owns a Laurel and has some knowledge in Internet and some english education most things can be get.

I hope on the summer I'll be ready with the car. Let's say it's 70% ready now.
The windshields are on their place, only the rear moldings are have to be installed.
I was able to get only an universal weatherstrip for the rear window, wich wasn't fit propery. The solution was to cut the part of the weatherstrip wich lies to the bodywork and glue the weatherstrip with the window together. It was a compromise, because to simply glue the window isn't nice, but with weatherstrip it looks much more original. I know not the best way, but I didn't left time and money left to get another one.
I hope I can get to Finland meeting this year summer with the car, it would be a great adventure and nice to get new friends and relationships.

Hi there Jaki!
Here's a link to the FinnJAE (=Säkylä weekend happening) frontpage:
http://finnjae.net/
On the right upper corner there's a box counting down the days to next FinnJAE, which also this year takes place at Säkylä camping area in August 22.-24. (Friday to Sunday).

And this link takes you straight to an English description of the happening:
http://finnjae.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=33

And don't worry if you don't get that Laurel of yours ready for the FinnJAE. It's not about the make of car your driving, it's about the right state of mind and attitude --> Japanese Auto Enthusiasm  ;)  (even though it really stands for Japanese Auto Extravaganza ) .

Dear friends,

thank you very much for the informations. I'm very pleased.
I wasn't able to find my password for the NCF forum, because my laptop in service for about one month, so I wasn't able to write.

Unfortunatelly, seems to be I'll not have chance to finish the car this summer. Some parts are still under restoration and without them the car is not complete.
I was very optimist before, but I'm very bittered about this right now.  :'(

It was a big plan for me to visit you and your cars in Finland.
I'll be very querious about the pictures wich will be taken there. :-)

Hi Jaki!
Nice to see Laurel in so good condition. That model brings me memories. Our neighbor had one of those,it was new.I later had some Laurels but they were later model -81 or -82,one with petrol engine and the other one was diesel (2.8 liter,6 cyl.) same engine was used in Cedric they were rather famous in Finland. Is it easy to get parts to those car today? What year model is yours? -78?

Dear T.S.

you're absolutely right, the C230 brings back memories just like other classics. One of my friend has  two C31 (gas 2.4 and diesel 2.8) and my other friend has a C32 (diesel 2.8) laurels too. Unfortunatelly as I wrote they're not wel known cars here :-( The Cedric is more rare here, I've only know one here in hungary, wich is owned by one of our TV show car magazine "riporter", it's called TOTALCAR.
I think it's the same name called Gloria?
Heres's a link:

http://karotta.blog.hu/tags/gloria

Look at the pictures.

My car was made in 1980, because from the begining of the 80's, Nissan made a face lift, they changed the rounded lights to rectangular, also got new front cooler mask. As far as I know...
To get parts, hmmmm. Well actually it's not easy. Need to have a lot of contacts from different countries, browse ebay day by day, send many many  emails....
I have very big luck, because I've got many new friends and very trusty people from the globe. Some parts are arrived from Argentina, but usually getting parts from England (Datman), Germany, Norvegia (PMC registeret), USA, Kuwait ETC :-) where these cars were very common. This is not a car where you walk into a dealer or car parts store and they provide parts from the shelf. Ofcourse some parts wich are used in other nissans (bluebird) are avaiable, but it's impossible to get anything other else in our country. Some parts needed to be remanufactured, so it's like hell sometimes. Very expensive, takes a lot of time... To rebuild a Datsun or other japanese car, you have to be very assiduous or in other case it's mission impossible.
My "bad luck" is, that I want to rebuild it as original as can be and I have a lot of restriction due to this. Fortunatelly only some chroming, flocking and small paint job left, but it still takes time.

Do you still own a datsun?
I've hard that the first timing chain change in the 2.8 diesel engine is after 1.000.000 km's. :-) The inline 6 cylinder engines are hard to kill, they just going, doing they job till the bodywork totally dies.
My car is mounted only 2.0 liters engine, but it's enough for me. Taxes  are high here, so it's unneccessary to have bigger engine. Ofcourse I would be much happier if i had a V8, but the laurel wasn't equipped with V8 engine.

I hope I'll able to see a Datsun President some days, somewhere... :-)

Hello!

After 5 years of work I've made my first 30 kilometers with the Laurel!  8-)

Was like a dream, beside that still have some small things remain to fix, but those are nothing comparing to the years.

I haven't made pictures yet, got pictures only from the last days of assembly.
